Computer Sex Crimes & Child Pornography
Tennessee Computer Child Pornography Defense Lawyer
Being convicted of a computer sex crime will change your future. Possibly for the rest of your life. Even being charged with an Internet sex crime can result in a stigma you may never be able to shake. Your standing in the community, your reputation and your career may be affected. If convicted, you will probably be required to register as a sex offender on a publicly viewable database.
It's not an exaggeration to say that your entire life will be affected.
People have lost their jobs, their families, their homes and their privacy because of the registration requirement. In addition, a conviction usually leads to jail time with little chance of parole. If you are paroled, then you face significant probation requirements in addition to the registration one – you will also face restrictions on where you can live, where you can work, who you can associate with and you may not even be allowed to see your own children without supervision.
More Computer Sex Crime Trials Than Most Other Defense Attorneys
It is important to be represented by an experienced criminal defense lawyer if you are facing computer sex crime charges. I am attorney Bernie McEvoy. As a former assistant district attorney for Davidson County, I prosecuted sex crimes cases exclusively for six years. I know exactly how the prosecution will prepare their computer sex crime case against you because I was in their shoes for a number of years.
I now use that knowledge and skill to defend clients against sexual offense charges, including computer sex crimes. Contact me as soon as you are charged or come under investigation.
Specific examples of computer sex crime and child pornography charges I have handled include:
- Inducing a child to engage in and record some type of sexual activity using e-mail, chat rooms or social networking sites
- Transmitting pornographic images to a child via the Internet or inducing the child to do the same
- Selling or distributing child pornography via the Internet
- Making sexual contact with a child using the Internet
Negotiating Lower Charges in Computer Sex Crime Cases
I have negotiated lower charges in a number of cases based on sting operations in which police officers or their agents pretended to be a minor. Such charges are often legally weaker because there is always the potential for police entrapment in these situations; this gives us a chance to negotiate lesser charges that do not carry the threat of required registration. It may also be possible to negotiate a lesser charge if you agree to attend a sex offender treatment program.
